This summer a few of the preteen girls from our church joined me for a writing challenge. We all answered one to two questions every week from the beginning of July to the beginning of August. I read lots of writing prompts and more or less created my own list from that inspiration.
At the end, we went out for ice cream to celebrate! It was a good experience, even if I completed most of the prompts when I should have been going to bed. I am grateful to the girls for participating with my idea! They did a great job! Here is just a sample from the first five responses–I plan to do my next post with the last four.

1-Write a list of five things you would like to do yet this summer.
Swim lots, tenting in our backyard, build a cabin in the woods, read lots of books, learn to sew a dress from start to finish
~Abigail
2-Tell about a favorite book you read this summer and why it’s your favorite.
My favorite book I read this summer was The Imagination Station Attack at the Arena. In this book two cousins named Patrick and Beth went to Rome. Patrick was a monk and Beth was a slave girl in the story. An older monk took care of Patrick. Honorais was the emperor. My favorite part of the book was when Honorais became a Christian because of the monk that took care of Patrick.

3-Describe a sunrise or a sunset. What were the colors like and how did the scene make you feel?
Once Rosalie and I were out at the salamander pool. There is a pipe from the reservoir to the pool. The sun was setting on the rock above the pipe. I could see the sun through the trees. I couldn’t just see God in the sunset, I could feel him. I wanted to hold that picture there forever and always.

4-Write a story about something fun you did recently with your family.
On Friday we went to Presque Isle and were there for the evening. All of the FB summer students came too and they made sand sculptures. They split up into teams and some of the sand castles were of a turtle, a coffee cart, and Winnie the Pooh, and two were of Jonah being spit out of the whale. We also had supper there. I found lots of very pretty rocks. It was a wonderful evening.

5-Describe a favorite summer food or treat, and if you can, tell us how to make it!
One of my favorite meals in the summer is BLTs, and Ben always raves like I made a full four-course meal when I actually barely prepared anything! I slice tomatoes and pull off lettuce leaves and arrange mayo and cheese and sometimes Italian dressing on the table. I do my bacon in the oven–7 minutes to a side at 415 degrees. We build it all on my homemade whole wheat bread, if we have it available, and sink our teeth into a big bite of juicy, bacony summer!
